Thematic Zones
1. Empowering Rural Women
Approach and Strategies
Objectives and Impact:
The core objectives behind our work with women include:
Promoting Women’s Leadership: By empowering women to assume leadership roles within their families, communities, and society, the initiative fosters a more inclusive and diverse leadership landscape. This not only benefits individual women by providing opportunities for personal growth and development but also enriches communities by tapping into a broader range of perspectives and experiences.
Engaging Women in Entitlement Realization: This aspect of the project addresses systemic barriers that may prevent women from accessing their entitlements. By educating and supporting women in understanding and accessing government schemes and provisions, the initiative ensures that they can fully benefit from the resources available to them. This leads to improved socio-economic outcomes for women and their families, contributing to poverty alleviation and community development.
2. Enhancing Sustainable Livelihood
Approach and Strategies
SATHI-UP is committed to the empowerment of women through the SABALA initiative, aimed at bolstering the livelihoods of small and marginal farmer families, particularly through the concept of women farmers. This women-centric development model brings together women from such families, organizing them into Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) at the Gram Panchayat level under the banner of Nari Sangh. The overarching objective is twofold: to foster women’s empowerment and identity within communities and to boost household income through agro-based income generation activities. The establishment of Women Farmer Resource Centers (WFRCs) at the village level plays a pivotal role in addressing various agricultural challenges by providing essential resources, knowledge-building sessions, and access to agricultural technologies.
Objectives and Impact:
The program focuses on several intervention strategies:
Collectivizing Women: Bringing together women from small and marginalized families at the Village/Gram Panchayat level.
Facilitating Women Collectives: Supporting women collectives to address the basic needs of families through entitlement realization.
Promoting Women’s Participation: Encouraging women’s participation in decision-making processes at various levels, including family, societal, and local PRI levels.
Establishing Women Farmer Resource Centers (WFRCs): Creating WFRCs to promote agro-based livelihoods and address agricultural challenges.
Conducting Knowledge Building Sessions: Organizing sessions on government schemes, programs, and agricultural technologies to enhance women’s knowledge and skills.
Providing Information and Tools: Offering information and tools for income generation activities, thereby promoting economic empowerment among women.
Through these objectives and strategies, the program aims to address the development concerns of underdeveloped regions, particularly focusing on women-centric perspectives. By fostering sustainable livelihoods and empowerment within communities, the initiative strives to create positive and lasting impacts on the lives of small and marginal farmer families.
3. Promoting Pre-Primary and Primary Education
a. Digital Classroom Program
Approach and Strategies
The Digital Classroom Program, a collaborative effort between SATHI and eVidyaloka Trust, Bangalore, focuses on improving learning outcomes by delivering online resources in regional languages to students enrolled in Grades 5-8. Volunteer Teachers conduct online classes using digital learning content in established digital classrooms within schools, with prior permission from the Education Department.
Objectives and Impact:
Improved Learning Outcomes: Enhancing learning outcomes among students through online resources and digital learning content.
Access to Quality Education: Providing access to quality education in regional languages, thereby breaking down barriers to learning.
Community Engagement: Facilitating community engagement and participation in the educational process.
b. GyanSetu Program
Approach and Strategies
SATHI-UP is deeply committed to bridging the education gap for rural children, particularly marginalized tribes. Currently, SATHI is implementing two approaches to address this issue.
The GyanSetu program, pioneered by SATHI, is dedicated to addressing the primary education needs of children from marginalized communities. It establishes GyanSetu Kendras (community education centers) within marginalized areas, engaging local volunteers as teachers. These centers conduct interactive and joyful learning sessions using various educational tools like Teaching Learning Materials (TLM), learning games, creative exercises, and debates. The focus is on key subjects such as Hindi, Math, English, General Knowledge, and Moral/Value-based education.
Objectives and Impact:
Identification and Support: Identifying and supporting dropout, out-of-school, and slow-learner children, facilitating their integration into formal education.
Enrollment and Retention: Ensuring the enrollment of children in schools and improving their learning and retention levels.
Parental Engagement: Sensitizing parents and families about the importance of education, encouraging their active involvement in their children’s educational journey.

5. SAHES Fellowship Program
The SAHES Fellowship, developed through a partnership between SATHI and the Azim Premji Foundation, is a dynamic initiative designed to cultivate and strengthen constitutional values at the grassroots level. Launched in 2020, this program engages individuals and groups deeply rooted in their communities, particularly in the Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand regions.
Through the SAHES Fellowship, selected fellows become agents of change, addressing prevalent issues such as untouchability, inequality, and discrimination. With a focus on fostering fraternity, secularism, justice, and equality, fellows work tirelessly to promote social harmony and responsible citizenship within their communities.
The Fellowship is more than just a program; it’s a commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive society. By empowering grassroots leaders to champion constitutional values in their daily lives, the SAHES Fellowship aims to create lasting positive change in some of India’s most underserved regions.
6. Gender Equality and Combating Violence Against Women
At SATHI, our commitment to gender equality and combating violence against women (VAW) is unwavering. Through grassroots efforts and community- based initiatives, we strive to foster a society where individuals of all genders can live free from fear, discrimination, and violence. However, through the Society Strengthening Approach facilitated by Nari Sangathan, these critical efforts are being carried out within our community. Through education, awareness campaigns, capacity building, and advocacy, we empower marginalized women and girls to assert their rights and challenge the structures perpetuating violence and discrimination.
Collective Action Through Nari Sangathan
The establishment of women's Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) like Nari Sangathan has been instrumental in empowering women to address various entitlement issues, including access to government schemes and resources. These organizations serve as platforms for collective action, where women unite to confront challenges, demand justice, and advocate for their rights. Through Nari Sangathan, women are actively asserting their rights and combating violence against them. For instance, they have effectively addressed issues such as unfair ration distribution and pricing by collectively challenging the system through advocacy and action. As evidenced by the impactful success stories showcased on our website, these efforts underscore the empowering impact of community mobilization facilitated by Nari Sangathan, demonstrating how women are taking tangible steps to create positive change
Our Commitment
At SATHI, we firmly believe that gender equality is not just a goal but a fundamental human right. We are dedicated to working alongside women and communities to challenge harmful gender norms, promote women's leadership and agency, and foster a culture of respect and equality for all.
